SWIMMING: Late rally propels Agoura girls past Thousand Oaks

The Agoura High girls' swim team demonstrated that it could be a factor at next week's Marmonte League championship meet and at the Southern Section Div. II finals May 16 by rallying for a 90-80 victory Wednesday over Thousand Oaks.

The Chargers won four of the final five events, including two from sophomore standout Shannyn Hultin, to defeat the Lancers, who received victories from Lauren Barnett in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles in 25.16 and 55.85 seconds.

Hultin began the comeback by capturing the 500 free (5:29.06), then led an Agoura sweep of the final three events with her victory in the 100 backstroke (1:03.91) after Thousand Oaks had won the 200 free relay (1:46.43).

Mariko Snyder secured the 100 breaststroke (1:13.89) -- her second victory following a 2:20.73 in the 200 individual medley -- to give the Chargers a four-point lead entering the 400 free relay.

Snyder, Christina Vournas, Savannah Fletcher and Hultin helped Agoura take two of the top three spots to secure the victory, building momentum into Friday's regular-season finale against Royal of Simi Valley.

Thousand Oaks continued its march to another boys' title with a 102-68 victory over Agoura. Henly Ko won the 100 free (50.22) and 200 IM (2:06.43) and David Armstrong doubled in the 50 free (23.38) and 100 butterfly (55.06) for the Lancers.
