Coach Hamilton Welcomes a Son, Is Named CIF Coach of the Year
Posted May 1, 2009
Last month, we featured Boys Varsity Basketball Coach Mike Hamilton and his new African American Mentorship program in this column. This month Hamilton is back in the Update with two pieces of breaking news: over Spring Break his wife Lisa gave birth to Triston Michael Jay Hamilton, and Coach Hamilton was named CIF Coach of the Year.
Coach will tell you that Triston's birth trumps his award, so we'll start there. Triston was born on April 10, and weighed 7.5 lbs and was 21 inches long. He is the Hamiltons' second child. Triston's big sister, Madison, is three years old.
CIF Coach of the Year is a tremendous honor. Coach Hamilton was selected by his peers for this honor, calling out his excellence in coaching. This is Hamilton's sixth year coaching at Buckley, and this season the boys varsity basketball team, which is dominated by young players and had only one senior on its roster, brought home the school's sixth consecutive Liberty League title and made it to the semi-final round in playoffs.
"Coach Hamilton continues to bring success to the boys' program with his tireless work ethic," said Byrd Newman-Milic, Buckley Upper School athletic director. "Few coaches work as hard or are as dedicated as Coach Hamilton. Mike has been worthy of this honor for many years."
