HS FOOT: Valencia QB is red hot

| | Comments (0) |

Valencia's Alex Bishop has a shot to break the state football record for highest completion percentage in one season. Heading into a Foothill League opener Friday against visiting Canyon, Bishop has completed 77.4 percent of his passes (72 of 93) for 1,216 yards and 16 touchdowns with one interception.

According to the Cal-Hi Sports record book, the state record is 78.1 percent by Trent Edwards (Los Gatos, 2000), and the best in Valley-area history is 72.4 (Samson Szakacsy, Camarillo, 2005).

Over the past two games, Bishop has completed 25 of 30 for 424 yards and six touchdowns, as Valencia (5-0) has climbed to No. 2 in the Northern Division.

"Alex is just lighting it up. I mean, 77 percent? That's just insane," Valencia coach Larry Muir said. "I think he's doing a good job of being efficient, the offensive line is protecting him really well, and when there is some pressure, he has great feet.

"Plus, the wide receivers are doing a good job of catching the football. Hopefully, we'll be able to keep it rolling."
