JEREMIAH ROSS SHOULD BE OUT!!!
Unprepared coaches, lack of scouting, lack of proper preparation of the players -- the PAC-5 runner up result three years ago was a fluke, and Jeremiah Ross has placed Crespi back into mediocrity -- oh wait, it looks more like the days of coaches Chris Hyduke and Ron Gueringer.
The season started off ok, beating up on low level teams. But when it came time to compete, an unprepared Celt team was down by over 30 points at the half to Servite (coached by Celt Troy Thomas). They made it close, but lost the game.
Then what? St. Bonaventure. Crespi takes them to overtime, then loses by 1 on a muffed PAT.
Then, a loss to Alemany...Alemany!!!!
Follow that up with a last second loss to Notre Dame, who should have never moved the ball as far and as fast as they did in the last 1 minute of the game.
A GREAT WIN over previously undefeated Bishop Amat showed that the Celts have the talent, and put them right back in the playoff picture.
And then last night, against 3-6 Loyola, another last minute defeat, because of poor preparation of the team, poor scouting, abysmal play calling (onside kicks that led to Loyola scores) and downright poor coaching.
So here is Crespi, who lost to Notre Dame and St. Bonaventure by a total of three points, AND soundly beat Bishop Amat, out of the PAc-5 playoffs. Why? A pair of disgusting and pitiful losses to Alemany and Loyola. Crespi should have been a two loss team, with losses to Servite and MAYBE to St. Bonaventure. Alemany, ND, and Loyola should have been victories.
Thanks a lot, Coach Ross. I suggest that Crespi send Coach Ross packing, and look to John Kidder (Crespi '83 and UCLA Football '84-'89), who has an assistant to former Crespi Coach Tim Lins for many years at Moorpark this year, to restore Celt pride, and performance on the field.
Crespi's students, parents, boosters, and alumni are tired of mediocrity. We gave millions for a new building, and have answered the call each time Crespi comes calling. It's time to give us the program we deserve, and give our current students and players the pride and honor that comes with being a Crespi Celt.
Perhaps Celt Alum could discuss his displeasure with the school administration? I'm not happy with how the season ended but this is not the appropriate venue; it helps no one and hurts the school and the boys.
I plan on calling my classmates, and taking this up with the administration forthwith. We've done too much for Crespi for them to let down the kids and let down the alumni.
However, I must disagree -- this does not hurt the boys in any way. I do not fault them, they did the best they could -- but Celt Parent, did you see the Loyola game? I haven't seen anything like that since my kid brother played for Coach Hyduke.
I love the Celts, but sometimes these things must be said.

Yes, I was at the game. My son is on the team. Again, this is not the venue. It only hurts the school & the boys.
Tell your son that the alumni are proud of them, they did their best. I feel bad for them, and had Troy Thomas not left (I don't know for sure if Troy left or the administration didn't do anything to keep him), things would be a lot different on Santa Rita Street.
The 2009 Crespi football team has 10-0 talent and heart. Umfortunately, it is led by .500 coaching. Every parent who attended Coach Ross' meeting prior to the start of this season heard this. Not all of your sons will be playing. I will field a team with players that give us the best chance of winning! Someone, please indicate when this took place at any of the 10 games Crespi played. Starters from a year ago, (experienced) now don't play? Strongest player on the team sees 15 snaps a game? Crespi QB, who played exceptionally, should never be a 2 way player at any level. QB and offensive coaches should be planning your offense when the opponent makes adjustments.
Each and every loss was the result of poor clock or personnel management. Against St Bonaventure, we have the lead, we know they have to throw the ball, but we won't sub an extra defensive back! Notre Dame game, we have the lead, in a position to run the clock down and we signal in a passing play that falls incomplete, stops the clock and saves Notre Dame their time outs. Next play we run the ball, clock runs, but we can't get a play in and we get a delay of game penalty. Stopping the clock AND lets back up 5. Frankly, glaring errors such as these are not made at the pop warner level!
It is so disappointing. Crespi is an excellent team. They worked hard and played hard. They deserved to win. So it is most unfortunate to see them lose by so little in every lost game. I agree, they should have only lost to Servite. The other games were absolute jokes in terms of call playing, especially Alemany, ND and Loyola. Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball, and pass. So predictable! The talent this team has was incredible. The QB Bryan Bennett is awesome and had an excellent season. He has a bright future along with many others like Hronus Graso. It is truly unfortunate that their senior football season ended the way it did. I am proud of all the Crespi Football players!! You guys are a talented bunch of guys who deserved a better season. It is sad not to be watching you at the home depot center this year. Your fans know you deserve to be there. Go Celts!!! See ya next year hopefully with a more consistent coaching staff.
A new blog post says Harry Welch is under consideration for the Loyola job.
No, no, no!!! Harry is a Crespi alum. We need him, he's a bigtime coach, who made Canyon a power for two decades, and has won consecutive championships at St. Margaret's in the OC.
We need him, and need him NOW!!! Crespi, please please please get Harry Welch if he's available. Other than Bill Redell, there's no one better!
Why would Harry Welch want Crespi?, historicaly its been a hotbed of molestation, and while these behaviors produced winning teams the finished product are colege athletes under arrest. The Crespi campus is a crime scene and should be surrounded by yellow tape.
Why would Harry Welch want Crespi?
Well you take headlines and highly distort facts.
A hotbed of molestation? Fr. Dominic Savino was an embarrassment to the school, but he was dealt with swiftly when the charges came to light -- and the incident happened in the 1970s!!!
There were also charges against former basketball coach Dick Dornan. However, those charges were unfounded, and discredited, as evidenced by the fact that he's now coaching in the City Section, who would NEVER open the door to him if he was even remotely suspected of guilt.
College athletes under arrest? Who? EJ Woods? So criticize the school for it's Christian ways, for taking kids from the other side of the tracks and making men out of them. I'd like to see Notre Dame or Loyola take on kids who are orphans, or have the story and family history of Woods -- and tuition free. Of course, ND or Loyola want their money, so they don't do it. It didn't work with this kid, but it has with many others, who otherwise might not have been saved. JJ Lasley and Russell White come to mind because they were stars, but I am sure there are countless others we've never heard about. Any other crime scene incidents that we should know about, or will you simply fire off accusations against the school without any facts whatsoever?
Let's see, from a pure athletic perspective...Willie Curran, Keith Eck, Babe Laufenberg, Rick Dempsey, Paul Mokeski, Joe Carrabino, Chris Nikchevich, Russell White, JJ Lasley, Christian Fauria, Shaun Williams, Jeff Suppan, and the list goes on.
Any of these in jail? Don't think so.
He's also mentioned for the position at Santa Margarita -- I see you didn't mention that school's history of molestation -- by a priest transferred there from Mater Dei, in the face of allegations over there. The Diocese settled the Santa Margarita case for several million dollars, and the incident motivated the victim to become a lawyer, and is now a legal expert in church molestation cases.
Why would Harry Welch want Crespi? Let's see, he's a graduate from the class of '63, coached there previously, and has always said he has a special place in his heart for Crespi. He's a Celt. Always has been, and always will be. So why not?
The main reason is quality of life. Orange County has got it, hands down over the Valley. I grew up in the Valley, live is South OC now, and would not go back for anything. But maybe, just maybe, Coach Welch will return to his alma mater to make it great again.
