HS WRESTLING: San Fernando's Muhammad leads strong local showing at Mann Classic

San Fernando's Sultan Muhammad took second in the 215-pound division Wednesday at the Mann Classic at Cal State Fullerton, falling 3-2 to Redlands East Valley's Andrew Hudson in the final.

Highland of Palmdale's Tyler Burton went 5-1 to capture third place in the 130-pound division. Following an 8-2 loss to Citrus Hill of Perris' Matt Guevara, Burton rebounded to defeat Ayala of Chino Hills' Alec Herrera 2-0 and Atascadero's Cullen Joy 2-1.

Highland's Patrick Larkin went 6-1 to finish third at 160 pounds, capped by a pin of Montebello's Raymond Guzman.

San Fernando's Adolfo Medina was 5-1 in the 189-pound draw, defeating Cypress' Paul Yoo 5-1 in the third-place match. Highland's Nick Moreno took sixth and El Camino Real's Aaron Tracht was eighth.

Littlerock's Trever Devestern defeated ECR's Jack Medina 9-7 in the seventh-place match at 145 pounds.

Devestern -- 12-0 with 11 first-period pins entering Wednesday -- suffered a 10-9 setback to Servite of Anaheim's Gian-Pier Yanez, before rebounding to defeat Atascadero's Ben Giggy 6-5.

Devestern then lost 12-7 to Laguna Hills' Wyond Mills, before capping the tournament by defeating Medina.
