HS FOOT: Westlake's Spruce is MVP of Pierce passing tourney

| | Comments (0) |

Nelson Spruce, the area's top returning receiver, was named MVP of the 24-team Pierce College tournament Saturday after helping Westlake to a 37-14 championship victory over St. Bonaventure in a rematch of last year's Northern Division final won by Westlake.

After defeating Dorsey 61-21 in the semifinals, Spruce scored a TD in the championship game, as Tre Wilson scored two touchdowns, Jared Fry scored, and Casey Bliss had an interception.

"Westlake looked amazing. They look unstoppable," said Pierce coach Efrain Martinez.

Canyon impressed, too, winning six in a row before losing 42-35 in the semifinals.
