Boys basketball: Ventura County coaching great John Ward passes away

John Ward, athletic director and boys' basketball coach at Carpinteria has passed away after a brief battle with colon cancer.

Ward was 55.

Ward was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer on Sept. 17 and died 12 days later.

Ward was known as the dean of Ventura County basketball.

He previously coached at Bishop Diego in Santa Barabra before taking over at Carpinteria.
