Football: Fillmore takes care of Malibu, 53-0
About the only thing that went right for the Malibu football team Saturday afternoon was the beautiful weather.
Not much else was positive in a season opening 53-0 loss against Fillmore.
Chris Konkol, Cooper Smart and Matt Mason each rushed for over 50 yards but five turnovers doomed the Sharks (0-1).
Konkol had 68 yards rushing on 12 carries and completed 8 of 15 passes for 56 yards but threw four costly interceptions.
Malibu had the ball inside Fillmore's 20-yard line twice in the second half but each drive was halted by a miscue.
The backbreaker was Matt Mason's fumble on third and three from the nine-yard line that Corey Cole returned 93 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter.
Cole did a lot of damage, throwing for 164 yards on 8 of 13 passing with two touchdowns and had an interception.
Sophomore Collin Farrar rushed for 181 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns.
Chris De La Paz contributed six receptions for 145 yards and two scores.
Nick Paz added 39 yards rushing on nine carries with two touchdowns
Fillmore rolled up 494 yards to Malibu's 233.

Is this how your going to start the football season by g inaccurate scoring? This is unprofessional. Your staff should be on the ball not sleeping. I just subscribed to your paper for highschool football scores. Burmingham and W. Adams scoring wrong, Burmingham won. Get it right or go watch tennis. This keeps happening I will end paper. And who is favoring Notre Dame and Oaks in features and tons of photos, What about other schools? Who is paying you guys to favor?
