Football: Oaks Christian loses opener

| | Comments (0) |

After beating Alemany last year, Oaks Christian couldn't make it two in a row.

Martin Meza nailed an 18-yard field goal with 14.5 seconds remaining to give Alemany a 20-17 victory.

A key play came on fourth and two from the 14 yard line and Alemany drew Oaks Christian offsides.

Three plays later Meza booted the game winner.

Oaks Christian had a golden opportunity with 3:38 remaining but couldn't convert on fourth and one from Alemany's 23-yard line.

Alemany took over and went 77 yards on nine running plays.

The loss was the first for Oaks Christian on its home field since October of 2007 against Oak Park and the first time the Lions have lost consecutive games since 2007.

Oaks Christian ended last season with a heart-breaking 42-41 setback in the Northwest Division final against Serra.
