HS FOOT: Here's what's on tap for this weekend
All games Friday, 7 p.m.
TAFT (2-2) at CRESPI (4-1) - The team that has the ball last might win because there figures to be lots of touchdowns, as both love to throw the football.
Taft's Michael Bercovici has completed 56.2 percent for 1,099 and eight TDs in four games, while Crespi's Kenny Stenhouse has completed 74.6 percent for 1,366 and 14 TDs in five games. Both have terrific WRs in Taft's Michael Thomas (35 receptions, 576 yards, six TDs) and Devin Lucien (31 receptions, 591 yards, nine TDs).
There's also a great matchup in the trenches between Crespi OL Jordan Simmons and Taft DL Antwaun Woods.
CHAMINADE (4-0) at NOTRE DAME (1-3) - Chaminade is hungry for a benchmark victory because the Eagles have not defeated Notre Dame since 1992, but this time they're a solid favorite over the rebuilding Knights.
With a balanced offensive attack led by RBs Tru Jarvis and Terrell Newby, Chaminade is averaging close to 400 yards per game. Notre Dame has always prided itself on defense, so stopping Chaminade's rushing game is a top priority.
LOYOLA (2-3) at VALENCIA (4-0) - Valencia is considerably stronger than everyone else in the Foothill League, so this nonleague showdown might be the last serious threat the Vikings must endure for an undefeated season.
Valencia's Alex Bishop has completed 67.9 percent for 1,227 yards and 14 TDs, and Steven Manfro has rushed for 577 yards (10.8 avg.) with 18 receptions for 479 yards while scoring 19 TDs, two on kick returns.
CAMPBELL HALL (4-0, 1-0) vs. PARACLETE (3-1, 1-0) at AV College - Small schools take the big stage in this Alpha League matchup, as pass-crazy Campbell Hall faces off against a Paraclete team that prides itself on defense.
Campbell Hall's R.J. Gordon has passed for 1,380 yards, an average of 345 per game.
GRANADA HILLS (2-2) at KENNEDY (2-2) -- This is a nonleague game, but there are neighborhood bragging rights on the line, plus the winner gets to keep the official Chamber of Commerce trophy for another year.
Kennedy's strength is its defensive line, and the unit will have to be at its best to contain Granada Hills' blazing RB Jacob Smith.
