HS FOOT: Crespi down by 23 at half vs. Servite

Mistakes have hurt Crespi in the first half, as the Celts have fallen behind 23-0 in a Pac-5 quarterfinal before a huge crowd in Encino.

Down 10-0, Crespi blew a sure touchdown when Devin Lucien slipped past the secondary on a long pass by Kenny Stenhouse, but Lucien dropped it.

Five plays later, Stenhouse fumbled and teammate Jordan Simmons pounced on it, only to see the football squib away and get recovered by Servite's Matt Inman.

Servite capitalized on Connor Luftus' 23-yard field goal to make it 13-0, then Crespi's Patrick Cassley's punt was blocked by Connor Hoffman and recovered by London Lewis in the end zone for touchdown.

Loftus kicked his field of the half, this one from 41 yards, and it was 23-0 when Crespi took over with one last chance to put some points on the board before halftime.

The drive stalled on the Servite 33, and a 50-yard field goal attempt by Cassley was short with six seconds remaining, but Servite committed a rougher-the-kicker penalty that pushed the ball to the Servite 18 for a final play.

Instead of going for a field goal, Crespi decided to run a play, and Stenhouse fade pass to Stenhouse was well-covered and fell incomplete.
