HS FOOT: The streak is over: Westlake loses to St. Bonnie 32-31 in 2 OT

WESTLAKE VILLAGE -- Wow, what a costly football loss for Westlake High.

The host Warriors fell 32-31 in double overtime to Marmonte League rival St. Bonaventure before a capacity crowd of 5,500, and there went Westlake's 22-game winning streak, a chance to win the outright league title, and perhaps most important the team's hopes for an eventual state bowl berth.

Down by six in overtime, St. Bonaventure (8-1, 7-1) scored Shaun Wick's 10-yard run, followed by the winning two-point conversion pass from Marc Evans to Cody Kurz, who until that point had not touched the football all night.

Westlake's Nick Isham completed 26 of 38 passes for a career-best 367 yards and three touchdowns, including a 25-yarder to Nelson Spruce in overtime.

Isham also threw touchdowns passes of 9 yards to Spruce and 13 yards to Cody Tuttle, and Westlake also scored on Jared Fry's 53-yard punt return.

It was not an easy night for Isham, who was constantly forced out of the pocket and was sacked seven times, as St. Bonaventure avenged a semifinal loss to the eventual Northern Division-champion Warriors last year in the semifinals.

In the first overtime with both teams starting from the 25-yard line, St. Bonaventure decided to go for it on fourth-and-3 from the 7, and Tanner Souza was tackled a yard short of the first down to give Westlake the ball and chance to win it.

Two plays following a holding penalty, Isham hit Spruce on a 20-yard pass to set up a potential winning field goal, but Alex Ball shanked a 26-yard attempt.
