Boys' basketball: Chatsworth can't lose
The early pick for City Section coach of the year is Scott Switalla at Chatsworth.
His Chancellors won their 10th game of the season against one close loss Thursday in a 92-54 victory against Venice.
Chatsworth is now in the semifinals Friday against El Camino of Oceanside at the Cantwell Sacred-Heart tournament in Montebello.
El Camino beat Montclair Prep, 77-69, handing the Mounties their first defeat of the season after seven wins.
Terrell Funchess led Chatsworth with 22 points and was the latest of several players to take charge for the Chancellors.
Chatsworth has been getting solid production from Funchess, Derrick Hector, Frankie Flore and Jason Rosales among others.
Chatsworth finished third at the Simi Valley tournament, won the Crescenta Valley tournament last week and is one win away from the championship at Cantwell Sacred-Heart.
The Chancellors are scheduled to play in the Marin Catholic tournament in Kentfield after Christmas and have nonleague games with Morningside, Colony and Price in January in addition to West Valley League play.
Chatsworth is a virtual lock to win the lowly Div. III championship in March.
It won't even be much of a challenge the way Chatsworth is playing right now.
The only loss is against McClymonds of Oakland, Calif. in the first game of the season at Simi Valley.
Chatsworth trailed by 19 points in that game before coming all the way back to take a one-point lead only to lose close, 71-68.
