Boys' basketball: ECR wins in Beverly Hills tourney

Maleke Haynes made two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to clinch El Camino Real's 53-49 victory against Leuzinger in a Beverly Hills tournament quarterfinal game.

Haynes, only a freshman, stepped to the line and calmly sank both shots with his team only leading by two points.

Anthony Jones scored 17 points and Temjae Singleton had 13 to lead ECR.

ECR trailed by nine points early, came back and led by nine in the fourth, gave up the lead at 48-47 but received a huge 3-pointer from Alex Kamberian to go back ahead and stay there.

"I think we grew up tonight," ECR coach David Rebibo said.

Another top frershman, Julian Richardson, had seven points and was on the receiving end of a spectacular between the legs pass from Haynes in the midst of a third quarter run.

Haynes, Richardson and Taft's Ajon Efferson are the top three freshman in thr West Valley league so far.

ECR is expected to unveil another youngster, Evan Wardlow, who should be cleared by doctors on Friday.
