Boys' basketball: Moorpark tourney update
Pool play started at the Moorpark tournament Tuesday.
The first surprise was Granada Hills staying undefeated with a 55-50 victory against Oaks Christian.
The Highlanders improved to 3-0 behind Chris Barberian's 17 points and Travis Griffin's 14 points.
Oaks Christian came back from a 38-30 deficit to take a two point lead but Granada Hills made eight of nine free throws in the fourth quarter and took advantage of a late 7-0 run.
Chass Bryan scored 19 points and had six rebounds, five assists and three steals but the Lions couldn't overcome missing five players, including starters Blair Holliday, Dillon van der Wal and Jackson Miller.
Chaminade had no problems with San Fernando in a 78-23 rout.
Sophomore Jaron Martin had 19 points, Gilles Dierickx had 17 and freshman Jack Williams contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Eagles outscored the Tigers 37-6 in the second half and a running clock was used for the entire fourth quarter.
Royal got some revenge on Hart with a 62-58 victory.
Max McCoy had 22 points and Nicholas Creber had 17 for the Highlanders, who avenged a 65-60 loss last week at the Burbank tournament.
