Prep Wrestling - Newbury Park Invitational
In what will most probably be the first of his many triumphs this season, El Camino Real's Ali Naser won all four of his matches at 125 pounds and was named the Lower Weight MVP at the Newbury Park Invivational wrestling tournament.
Not only did Naser's high finish help propel El Camino Real to a second-place overall finish in the tournament, but Adam Tracht won the 189-pound title over J.T. Lawson of Thousand Oaks, Josh Adad came in second when he lost in the 112-pound finals to Bryce Martin of Bakersfield and Shayan Shahangian (145) and Schrab Sheikhha (171) both finished in third place in their respective divisions.
Moorpark came in third in the tournament behind the efforts of Ryan Thompson, who won the 135-pound weight class over Hunter Hodges of Bakersfield, and Richie Vaillancourt, who beat Forest Pfatenhaur of Highland at 119 pounds.
Miguel Gallegos powered the San Fernando team with a title at 140 pounds over Maxx Ramirez of Bakersfield, Brandon Berrellez won the 145-pound title for Palmdale, Shawn Laguna of Westlake beat Justin Veditz of Royal to win at 161 and William Gockel-Figge of Simi Valley won the 215-pound championship over Daniel Pond of Newbury Park.
