Girls' basketball: Seniors step up, set the stage for Mission League showdown

| | Comments (0) |

Chaminade senior Travis Newman had 26 points, six assists, five rebounds and five steals to lift the Eagles to their 13th consecutive victory Tuesday with a 60-38 Mission League triumph over Louisville.

Harvard-Westlake senior Skylar Tsutsui scored 16 points, all in the second half, to push the Wolverines to a 56-48 Mission League victory Tuesday over Alemany.

Barring a stumble by either team Thursday -- Harvard-Westlake (15-8, 4-1) plays host to Notre Dame and Chaminade (19-2, 5-0) plays host to Flintridge Sacred Heart -- they will square off next Tuesday at Harvard-Westlake in a game that should decide the league title.

Chaminade got the better of Harvard-Westlake with a 51-46 victory Jan. 11, snapping the Wolverines' 13-game league winning streak.

Newman's effort was her best since recording 35 points, 10 rebounds and six assists against Louisville in a 72-34 league victory in 2009.

Tsutsui is averaging 12 points per game in six career matchups with Alemany since transferring to Harvard-Westlake prior to her sophomore year.
