HS BASE: Valencia's Williams turns it on

| | Comments (0) |

After a slow start, Valencia's Trey Williams is turning it on. He has six home runs, four over the past seven games heading into a key Foothill League matchup at 3:15 p.m. today at West Ranch.

The junior is batting .274, and 10 of his 17 hits have been for extra bases, including a home run Wednesday in a 2-1 win over West Ranch in the first of a two-game series.

"Trey is definitely hitting, and it couldn't come at a better time," said coach Jared Snyder, whose Vikings have a one-game lead over Hart with five to play.

Williams' resurgence has coincided with a return to third base after spending most of the season as a designated hitter because of arm problems.

"Sometimes being a DH is tough because if you're not hitting well, you have the whole game to dwell on it because there's nothing else to do," Synder said. "Not everyone is cut out for it."
