HS BASE: Youth movement at San Fernando

| | Comments (0) |

San Fernando (18-5) has having a strong season, and the Tigers are a team on the rise because some of the top players are underclassmen.

Willie Vasquez, a junior, is batting .545 with 17 RBIs. Freddie Flores, also a junior, is hitting .391 with 25 RBIs, and he might be the Valley's most productive No. 9 hitter.

"Freddie probably would like to be higher, but that's where he bats," coach Armando Gomez said.

The Tigers also have senior leadership in pitchers David Lira (4-4, 1.90 ERA) and Jose Reyes (4-1, 3.30 ERA, 42 strikeouts).

"David Lira has four losses, but every loss has been one of our biggest games," Gomez said.
