BASEBALL: San Gabriel Valley Babe Ruth all-stars face Watsonville again

| | Comments (0) |

Watsonville defeated Modesto 13-3 in an elimination game Monday at the Babe Ruth 18-under Pacific Southwest Regional tournament at Modesto Christian, setting up a rematch with San Gabriel Valley at 5:30 p.m. today in the regional championship.

San Gabriel Valley, coached by Crescenta Valley's Phil Torres, held off defending regional champion Watsonville 2-1 on Sunday, atoning for 5-3 and 10-2 losses in last year's tournament.

If Watsonville is victorious in the first game, an if-necessary final would follow later Tuesday night, with the winner advancing to the Babe Ruth 18-under World Series, scheduled for Aug. 6 in Ephrata, Wash.

San Gabriel Valley won three 18-under World Series titles from 2004-07, but has won the regional tournament only once in the past three years.
