Boys' basketball: Taft vows to keep program strong

| | Comments (1) |

The Taft boys' basketball program lost its chief last week when Derrick Taylor left to take the coaching position at St. John Bosco but asst. principal Robert Clarke says the program will remain strong.

"it is now my job to find a great coach and I will," Clarke said. "We lost a great coach and I know Derrick struggled with the decision to leave but i want to keep Taft a strong program in the City Section."

Clarke would like to hire a new coach by the end of the month and is taking applicant materials through Friday.

Colin Jamerson and former Taft asst. Temesghan Starr are two names that have been talked about.

Jamerson coached at Sierra Canyon two season ago before guiding Shalhevet last year.

Starr was an asst. at Montana St. last year.

Taft is still the West Valley League favorite with Brandon Perry, Steven Jones, Kris Yanku and Sandro Alberto back in the fold.

Michael Thomas is a rising junior prospect.
