SOFTBALL: Antelope Valley wins, Crescenta Valley remains alive

Antelope Valley's 18-under softball all-star team opened the Big League Western Regionals with a 12-0 mercy-rule victory Tuesday over Seattle, Wash., at Monte Vista Little League Field in Lancaster.

Rosamond's McKenzie Draper and Bishop's Kellie Tiner led the way for Antelope Valley, which won its 22nd consecutive regional game since 2007.

Antelope Valley, seeking its eighth consecutive berth in the 18-under World Series in Kalamazoo, Mich., will play at 5 p.m. today against Oregon, which suffered a 15-0 setback Tuesday to Westchester Del Rey.

Crescenta Valley's 14-under softball all-star team avoided elimination with a 14-6 victory over South El Monte in the Southern California state tournament in Victorville.

Cailen Rodriguez had a two-run homer and Marissa Cornelius had two hits and four RBIs for Crescenta Valley (8-1), which plays Victorville American or Westchester Del Rey at 6 p.m. today in another elimination game.
