TRACK AND FIELD: Britt wins AAU title, sets national youth record

| | Comments (0) |

Alemany freshman Nia Britt set a national youth record in the 6-pound shot put Friday at the AAU Junior Olympic Games to capture the title in New Orleans.

Britt, representing Valley United Track Club, unleashed a throw of 51 feet, 6 1/4 inches to smash the previous standard of 49-8 1/4 set in 2003 by Kamorean Hayes.

Britt's effort was nearly a four-foot improvement from her winning effort Sunday of 47-10 1/2 at the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Wichita, Kan.
