WESTLAKE VILLAGE -- A sophomore quarterback making his first-ever start against one of California's most powerful opponents before a capacity crowd of more than 7,000, Brandon Dawkins came through like a seasoned veteran Friday, completing 16 of 20 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown while also scoring a touchdown to carry Oaks Christian to a 36-24 football victory over visiting St. Bonaventure.

"I think it was a pretty good start for the first time. I had some fun out there," said Dawkins, whose 59-yard touchdown with just over five minutes remaining put a dagger in St. Bonaventure's comeback hopes.

The win was Oaks Christian's second in two years over St. Bonaventure (2-1, 1-1) since both joined the Marmonte League last season.

Oaks Christian's Marcus Jones was a force on defense, causing two fumbles, recovering two fumbles and totaling three sacks.

After falling behind by 17 at the half, St. Bonaventure pulled to within 27-24 but could get no closer.

The lights went out with 6:52 remaining, causing a 20-minute delay.

Oaks Christian's Carlos Mendoza rushed for 103 yards on 21 carries including a 2-yard touchdown.
