HS FOOTBALL: Here are three big games coming up Friday

Here are some Friday football previews:

Chaminade (1-0) at Valencia (0-1), 7 p.m. - Valencia did a good job Friday containing Notre Dame's Khalfani Muhammad in a 17-14 overtime loss, holding the ultra fast running back to 73 yards in 18 carries with no TDs. The Vikings look to do the same thing to Chaminade's Terrell Newby, but it won't be easy, as Newby is coming off a 279-yard, five-TD performance in a 41-21 victory over visiting Venice.

Valencia is focusing on finishing strong after surrendering a 14-point lead over the final seven minutes in the Notre Dame loss.

Taft (0-1) at Notre Dame (2-0), 7 p.m. - This is going to be tough road game for Taft, which lost most of its top players to graduation - including record-setting QB Michael Bercovici (now at Arizona State) - while Notre Dame has returned nearly every key starter.

Notre Dame QB Kelly Hilinski had an uneven performance Friday in a 17-14 overtime win over visiting Valencia, completing 7 of 24 for 109 yards with two interceptions while being sacked five times, but the 6-foot-6 junior came through at the end with a 42-yard TD pass to Kevin Carrasco with three minutes remaining, followed by an successful two-point conversion pass to force overtime.

Thousand Oaks (1-0) at Moorpark (1-0), 7 p.m. - The grueling Marmonte League season has begun, and this showdown should be interesting because both are bubble teams hoping to finish among the top half in the 10-team league to qualify for the playoffs.

Thousand Oaks scored a 62-0 win over Buena, but the Lancers should expect a lot more resistance from Moorpark, a traditionally strong defensive team featuring DL Brandon Hughes and touted LB Tony Mack.
