Former Royal standout Kathleen Wright had 20 digs Saturday in the championship match of the San Diego Mesa tournament, leading the top-ranked Pierce College women's volleyball team to a 25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15 victory over No. 4 El Camino (7-1).

Wright, the tournament MVP, added 22 digs and seven aces in a 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 25-9 semifinal victory over Western State Conference rival College of the Canyons.

Taft graduate Jasmine Levi, an all-tournament selection, had 15 kills and three blocks, and former Birmingham standout Danetta Boykin added 13 kills for the Brahmas (9-0), who have won 27 of 29 games this season.

Sakurako Fujii contributed seven kills and 10 digs, with Newbury Park graduate Veronika Ban adding six kills for Pierce, which has won two tournament titles, including the Modesto championship Sept. 2.

West Ranch graduate Janelle Futch followed a 47-assist effort against COC with 38 against El Camino, which suffered its second consecutive four-game setback to Pierce, following last year's Southern California regional final.

Fujii, an all-tournament pick, had 15 kills versus only one hitting error and Ban added 11 kills against COC.
