HS FOOTBALL: Chaminade-Notre Dame matchup was epic

| | Comments (0) |

In the wake of Chaminade High's 36-32 win Friday over visiting Notre Dame that saw the host Eagles come from an 11-point deficit in the final two minutes, some are calling the victory the greatest in the school's 60-year history.

"In my 29 years as a head coach and administrator, I have never seen such passion in the players, electricity in the crowd -- and a great ending," Chaminade athletic director Todd Borowski said.

The showdown between two of the San Fernando Valley's elite private-school programs featured a series of twists and turns, as Chaminade (4-1) jumped to an 18-point halftime lead, then Notre Dame scored 29 unanswered points before the Eagles rallied at the end.

"Nights like that are why we play the game," Chaminade quarterback Logan Scott said. "I've never played in a more exciting game in my life."

Added Chaminade coach Ed Croson: "They should have charged everyone again on the way out. Eight dollars wasn't enough because this game was too good."

Meanwhile, Notre Dame (5-1) needs to pick itself up in a hurry because an even bigger challenge awaits, as Serra League competition begins at 7 p.m. Friday at Crespi (5-1). The teams are fierce rivals, and Notre Dame is looking to avenge a season-ending loss last year to the Celts that cost the Knights a playoff berth - only the second Crespi victory over the Knights in the past 16 meetings.
