HS FOOTBALL: Valencia leads Canyon by 17 at half

Canyon is doing a number on Valencia, leading 24-7 at halftime.

Valencia went right to work, driving 80 yards on 11 plays to jump to a 7-0 lead on Sean Murphy's 1-yard touchdown run. The key plays included Jake Solley's 43 yards rushing on five carries in addition to a 19-yard pass from Murphy to Malik Townsend.

Canyon went three-and-out, then Valencia scored another touchdown, driving 50 yards in five plays, as Townsend scored on a 29-yard pass from Murphy to make it 14-0.

Sparked by a 50-yard kick return by Max Archuleta to the Valencia 48, Canyon pulled to within in a touchdown, as Jonathan Jerozal found Drew Wolitarsky on an 18-yard pass to the Valencia 12, and Jerozal scored two plays later on a 1-yard run.

Valencia scored on its third consecutive possession, driving 80 yards in 10 plays, including three Murphy completions for 25 yards to help set up Cody Anciano's 18-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 21-7.

Schreiber added a 19-yard field goal to give Valencia a 24-7 halftime lead.
