HS FOOTBALL: Newby, Muhammad on the run
Chaminade plays host to Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and the game within the game is a matchup between star running backs Terrell Newby of Chaminade and Khalfani Muhammad - two of the Southland's fastest who both happen to be privately coached by Eliel Swinton, a played at Montclair Prep and Stanford.
"Everyone has been calling me, asking who is going to have more yards," Swinton said.
For Chaminade (3-1), it's a step-up game for a rising program that still is having difficulty against elite programs.
"We're looking forward to another big game against a ranked opponent," said Chaminade coach Ed Croson, who is expecting a capacity crowd.
Notre Dame (5-0) is one of the area's few large schools that remain undefeated.
"In practice, the team has a sense of urgency this week that I haven't seen this year," Notre Dame defensive lineman Brandon Jett said. "It shows me that the game will set the tone for the rest of the season. We're very excited to play Chaminade."
