BASKETBALL: Midnight Madness for Sierra Canyon

Defending Southern Section Div. V-AA champion Sierra Canyon will be holding a huge Midnight Madness basketball event Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Montclair Prep in Van Nuys.

The team will hold a light practice and perform drills and conduct slam dunk and 3-point contests.

The team will be give their championship rings after edging former Olympic League rival Montclair Prep by two point in overtime last March at Mater Dei of Santa Ana.

Junior guard Jahmel Taylor will be presented his Div. V-AA player of the year award and coach Ryan Silver will be honored for the Div. V-AA coach of the year award.

The 2011-2012 squad features Taylor, Julian Brooks, Jesse Howell, Justin Ifekeniguwe, Brandon White, Jarmani Spencer, Reggie Prince and freshman Justin Waldorf, Juwan Trotter and Robbie Feinberg.

The girls' basketball team will also take part in the event. New coach Raquel Alotis will show-off her new team, including top freshman Kennedy Burke and Cheyanne Wallace.

Sierra Canyon is in the middle of building a top-notch facility on campus.

The brand-new gym will be ready in January or February.
