HS FOOTBALL: Chaminade looks to unseat Serra

| | Comments (0) |

Chaminade plays at 7 p.m. Friday at Serra, and there is a lot on the line. The visiting Eagles (8-1, 4-0) look to knock off the defending Mission League and Western Division champion Cavaliers (7-2, 4-0), who are 49-4 over the past four-plus seasons. Hanging in the balance is the division's top playoff seed, as Chaminade is No. 1 and Serra is No. 3 heading into the heavily anticipated showdown.

What makes the matchup especially intriguing is the end-of-a-dynasty angle, as Chaminade has returned most of its top players from last year's semifinalist team - including star running back Terrell Newby, standout quarterback Logan Scott and top lineman Taylor Hindy - while Serra graduated most of its top players from last year's 14-1 state-finalist team.

"We're not going to hold anything back to prove we're No. 1," Newby said.
