HS FOOTBALL: Westlake rolls over Hart in Northern quarterfinal

The Westlake High machine keeps right on rolling.

With aspirations of not just an eventual Southern Section Northern Division championship but perhaps a CIF State Bowl berth, visiting Westlake took care of business Friday in a 42-14 quarterfinal victory over Hart at College of the Canyons.

Westlake jumped to a 28-point halftime lead and totaled 432 yards in the latest in a series of dominant performances, as the top-seeded Warriors improved to 12-0 while winning their 38th in 40 games over the past three seasons.

Westlake plays host to Marmonte League rival Thousand Oaks (8-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Northern semifinals, as the Warriors look to reach a final for the third consecutive season.

Justin Moore completed 7 of 11 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns of 15 and 34 yards to Connor Cook, and the junior quarterback added 125 yards rushing on five carries including a 78-yard run.

"We played well. We came here and executed well," Moore said. "Our offense started fast and did a good job moving the ball, and we played hard."

Westlake and coach Jim Benkert were playing with a heavy heart, as Benkert's mother died Wednesday.

"It's been a tough week," Benkert said.
