BOYS' BASKETBALL: Alemany opens with win against Birmingham

Alemany got off on the right foot with an 86-71 victory against Birmingham in the first round of the Santa Monica tournament.

Marqueze Coleman scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Coleman is headed to Nevada next year, along with Campbell Hall's Cole Huff.

Sophomore Bear Henderson scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds, Max Guercy scored 15 points and had five assists and Michael Coleman scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Abrionn Webster poured in 22 points to lead Birmingham, which was coming off a nice 67-65 victory against Ribet Academy Saturday at the pasadena tournament.

Alemany will play Palisades in a quarterfinal Thursday
