BOYS' BASKETBALL: Third week of season has many top tournaments

If there wasn't enough basketball for you last week, get ready for more starting Monday.

There are several top tournaments in Southern California.

Santa Monica, Westchester, Beverly Hills, Moorpark, Canyon (Cyn. Cty.), Oak Park, and Viewpoint are several high school that will host tournaments.

Alemany, Chaminade, El Camino Real, Birmingham and Canoga Park will take on some real heavyweights at Santa Monica, which includes nationally ranked Loyola.

Taft is at the Westchester tournament.

The Moorpark tournament is loaded with several top local schools.

Canyon will feature Simi Valley tournament champion Valencia, Burbank tournament champion Canyon and Crespi.

An intriguing game at the Viewpoint tournament is Village Christian vs. Brethren Christian Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Village Christian is 4-1 behind Marquis Salmon and Sierra Canyon sophomore transfers Bryan Alberts and Marsalis Johnson.

Brethren Christian features 7'7 center Mamadou N'daiye.

N'daiye is averaging nearly 23 points per game, 13.2 rebounds per game and 6.8 blocks.

Village Christian coach Jon Shaw called N'daiye "a heavy version of Manute Bol".

Shaw plans to make it a full court game and try to not let N'daiye catch the ball on the block.

"I didn't know Don Nelson and the Golden State Warriors let Manute Bol move to the Orange County," Shaw quipped.
