The Viewpoint boys' basketball program is building for the future under the direction of Montclair Prep graduate J.J. Prince.

The Patriots slipped past a good Fairmont Prep of Anaheim team Wednesday at the MaxPreps Holiday Classic in Cathedral City (near Palm Springs).

Tim Howell scored 26 points, Jack Borenstein scored 19 points and John Walsh added 11 points to lead Viewpoint.

Viewpoint improved to 8-3. Fairmont Prep dropped to 11-2.

Borenstein is averaging around 20 points per game and the Patriots just got back guard Jonny Paul from a leg injury.

Paul makes things happens and is averaging close to 18 points per game.

Viewpoint will play Sierra Pacific at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The winner advances to the California Division championship game Friday.
