HS FOOTBALL: Long ride home for Chaminade

| | Comments (0) |

It's tough enough losing in the semifinals - one round before a chance to make history - and it was especially difficult Friday for Chaminade to endure 45-36 loss at distant Arroyo Grande, the same opponent that knocked off the visiting Eagles last year in the same round on the same field.

"It was a long ride home," Chaminade offensive lineman Eli Sibrian said.

Chaminade's Terrell Newby rushed for 188 yards on 34 carries, give him 2,073 yards - a new school single-season record, breaking Tim Lavin's 1987 mark of 1,741 yards.

"I wasn't sure what the record was, but I knew no one had ever rushed for 2,000," Croson said.

Newby, a junior, also scored four touchdowns, giving him 35 this season and 57 for his career.
