HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Westlake loses to De La Salle in state bowl
CARSON - There is good, and then there is Concord De La Salle good.
Westlake High, the king of Valley-area football, learned the difference Saturday. After winning 14 games this season, most by a margin of more than three touchdown, Westlake lost 35-0 to De La Salle in the CIF State Open Division bowl before a crowd of 9,694 at Home Depot Center.
Westlake had the size advantage up front, but everything else went in De La Salle's favor, as the Spartans wore down Westlake with its crisp execution, opportunistic defense and a fast start that resulted in a 21-point halftime lead.
Westlake came in with a 40-2 record over the past three seasons but proved no match for De La Salle, a legendary program that came in ranked No. 8 in the nation by USA Today.
"We prepared hart for Westlake because we knew they were a tough team," De La Salle coach Bob Ladouceur said. "Westlake is an outstanding football team. We knew that, so the kids played hard, and we rose to the occasion against a very good team."
De La Salle totaled 447 yards while holding Westlake to 37 yards in the second half, 248 overall, as a running clock was used in the fourth quarter.
Westlake's Justin Moore completed 15 of 31 for 154 yards, and Cody Tuttle had nine receptions for 89 yards. Moore added 48 yards on 14 carries.

I was blocked from these games being shown on Comcast Sports in the Bay area by Dish Network. I live in Arizona and I can watch all the high school playoff games out of Texas and Florida -- but not California this year. Previously I've watched all the games on the Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket throughout the years with zero problems.
I just KNEW the CIF and Time Warner would screw this up. It's just another "sign-of-the-times," customer service mistake. UNREAL how this wasn't squared away beforehand.
