BOYS' BASKETBALL: Jose Estrada scores 47 points against Sierra Canyon

Jose Estrada gave Sierra Canyon a dose of its own medicine Monday in a nonleague game at Sheperd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch.

The 6'3 junior guard scored 47 points to lead Cantwell Sacred-Heart to a 76-70 victory against the Trailblazers (10-6).

Estrada had 26 points by halftime and his layup with under one minute remaining extended a slim one point lead after Sierra Canyon rallied from a 47-29 deficit early in the third quarter.

Junior guard Jahmel Taylor is usually the one having large scoring outbursts for Sierra Canyon.

Taylor scored 20 points but the Trailblazers had no answer for Estrada, who scored in double figures in every quarter.

"He made a statement," Taylor said of the Mexican Junior National team member, who moved in with relatives in the Montebello area over the summer.

Estrada scored 47 points against Ocean View earlier this year and it was the third time he has gone over the 40-point threshold.
