GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Duva dismissed from team at Lousville

Louisville (7-5) will enter Mission League play this Thursday against Alemany (14-1) without returning leading scorer Andrea Duva.

Duva was a second-team All-Mission League selection who averaged 12.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.

Louisville coach Bob DaCorsi said, "It's a big disappointment."

Duva is pursuing a tennis scholarship and was given permission by DaCorsi to spilt time between the two sports, but was dismissed from the team late last week.

DaCorsi described her dismissal as "failing to hold up her end of the bargain."

Duva played in only three games this season.

Louisville has played well this year without Duva and could easily be 10-2.

"We have lost games by 2, 3 and 4 points, and were close in all the other contests." DaCorsi said.

The bright light at the end of the tunnel was a three point overtime loss to traditional Orange County power Rosary, who was ranked No. 9 in Division 4-AA at the time.

Emerging junior forward Nicholle Aston is a big part of the Royals revival.

She is averaging 22.7 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Aston has been selected all-tournament at both the Nordhoff and Providence tournaments.
