Southern Section volleyball polls

After a week out of the top 10 in Div. I-AA, Flintridge Sacred Heart in La Canada returned at No. 9. Harvard-Westlake stayed in the top 10 as well in Div. I-AA, at No. 7.
Valencia moved back into the top 10 as well. The Vikings are No. 10 in Div. I-A. Saugus is tied at No. 9, setting up a meeting of top 10 teams in their Foothill League match on Tuesday.
Top-ranked Santa Barbara plays at Harvard-Westlake on Saturday in a nonleague match.
La Canada stayed at No. 1 in Div. II-A, which continues to be the best represented division in the area. La Reina, Oaks Christian, Oak Park and Oxnard are all in the top 10 in Div. II-A
Village Christian remains the top team in Div. III-A. Golden League rivals Quartz Hill and Littlerock are in the top 10 in Div. III-A. They meet on Wednesday in their first league match.
Grace Brethren in Simi Valley is No. 1 in Div. IV-A and Santa Clarita Christian tops the polls in Div. V-A.

Saugus finishes second in Kennedy La Palma tournament

The Saugus girls volleyball team lost to Canyon of Anaheim in the championship game of the Kennedy La Palma tournament in Orange County on Saturday.
Saugus, winners of 12 straight matches entering the tournament, defeated Narbonne and host Kennedy La Palma in pool play before meeting Cypress in the playoff portion of the tournament.
Saugus defeated Cypress, the reigning Div. III-AA champs and ranked No. 8 in Div. II-A, in the semifinals.
In the championship match, Canyon of Anaheim won in two games, 25-20, 25-20.
Saugus senior outside hitter Katie Estes had 44 kills and 27 digs in the tournament. Saugus senior setter Alyssa Terwall had 70 assists. The loss to Canyon was the first for Saugus, which won the Tri City Tournament last month.
Saugus plays Valencia on Tuesday, the second Foothill League match of the season for both teams. Valencia was 10-0 in the Foothill League last year.

Saugus in Kennedy La Palma volleyball tournament

Saugus brings its 12-0 record and Tri City tournament championship to the Kennedy La Palma tournament in Orange County on Saturday.
Saugus has Narbonne, Western of Anaheim, Mary Star of the Sea and Kennedy of La Palma, the host school, in its pool for the tournament.
Mary Star of the Sea is ranked ninth in the Southern Section Div. IV-AA poll.
Cypress, the eighth ranked team in Div. II-A, is entered in the tournament, as is Canyon of Anaheim. Even though Canyon of Anaheim has a losing record, Saugus coach Zack Ambrose considers the team one of the favorites to win the tournament.
Saugus is ranked 10th in Div. I-A and is coming off a win over Canyon of Canyon Country on Thursday to open Foothill League play.

Westlake's Hagy going to Cal to play golf

Brandon Hagy, a senior a Westlake High School, has committed to play golf at UC Berkeley.
Hagy won the Thousand Oaks City Amateur tournament last weekend and was selected to play for the United States in the Honda International Junior Golf Championship later this month in Japan.
Danielle Kang, also from Westlake High School, has been selected to play in the Honda Interational Junior Golf Championship.

Saugus improves to 11-0 in girls volleyball

The Saugus girls volleyball team swept visiting Chaminade in three games to stay undefeated and improve to 11-0.
Senior Kati Estes had 11 kills and two blocks and senior setter Alyssa Terwall had 22 assists for Saugus.
Senior Kacie Crawford had five kills, four blocks and six digs and freshman Jaclyn Clark had eight kills and 11 digs.
Saugus opens Foothill League play on Thursday against Canyon and then plays in the Kennedy La Palma tournament on Saturday.

Marmonte League standings

Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park have risen to the top of the Marmonte League standings and are both 3-0 against league opponents.
Thousand Oaks was expected to be on top of the standings, but Newbury Park, with wins over Moorpark, Agoura and Westlake, is a bit of a surprise.
Next up for Newbury Park is Simi Valley on Thursday. Thousand Oaks plays Calabasas, winless in three league games this year.
Thousand Oaks went undefeated last year in league and senior Kat Luft said it's something the team wants to do again.
"It's definitely a goal for us," Luft said. "It's always a goal for everyone at the beginning."

Granada Hills, El Camino Real and Chatsworth all posted wins in their first West Valley League volleyball matches.
Cleveland, Birmingham and Taft all lost.

Southern Section volleyball polls

The Southern Section girls volleyball polls were released on Monday. Thousand Oaks and Flintridge Sacred Heart were knocked out of the top 10 in Div. I-AA. Harvard-Westlake was dropped to No. 7.
La Canada, Village Christian and Santa Clarita Christian held the top ranks in their respective divisions. La Canada is No. 1 in Div. II-A; Village Christian is No. 1 in Div. III-AA and Santa Clarita Christian is No. 1 in Div. V-AA.
Div. II-A remains strongly represented by La Reina, Oxnard, Oak Park and Oaks Christian.
Littlerock cracks the top 10 in Div. III-A at No. 5, oddly one spot ahead of No. 6 Quartz Hill.
