Will no one stand up for our children?

City government has wasted the entire general fund for nearly twenty years without spending any money on infrastructure maintenance.

Based upon this failure, they ask us to give them MORE money??

But, hey, no worries, let's make our children pay it back, with interest. What's $1 BILLION?

Is the Press Telegram that far in the tank with this corrupt government?

There is no question that the Mayor put forth the
Measure it good faith. That is and should not be in
doubt any more than that fact its highly doubtful it will pass given:

l.The oh so wise 2/3 majority needed to pass.
2.The lack of adequate safe guards as to where the
money will be spent.
3.The high propensity that some of the funds will be
diverted to fund items at war with the legislative
intent of the Measure-after he is gone.

AS CIRCUMSTANCE WOULD HAVE it,tomorrow,Wednesday October 7,the public can get an excellent idea of how well the City can or can not be trusted to
follow the law.TO WIT:

Go down to Appian Way/Third Street entrance to
the Marine Stadium(where the summer band concerts
are held). If you see a flea/farmer;s market set up
there-you will know the City can not be trusted.

The dubious de facto itinerant 99 cent store is
illegal. The City Zoning Administrator issued a
CEASE AND DESIST ORDER TO THE SPECIAL EVENTS OFFICE WHICH GREEN LIGHTED THE FOR PROFIT OPERATION WITH THE APPROVAL OF GARY DE LONG.

l.There area was impregnated with the unwanted
without ANY PUBLIC HEARING OR NOTICE.
2.It is in violation of the Governing Grant Deed.
3.The area is not zoned for such an operation.
4.It is non Coastal Dependent.
5.It is in violation of the City's own operation
policy for the Marine Stadium that wisely limits
the non boating activities.
6.Any such activity needs a permit from the
Coastal Commission-the City has known this for
months-long after the trial period.
7.It is highly doubtful the City or Coastal
Commission will issued a formal permit.
A.It is in violation of the Grant Deed.
B.It opens the door for commercial operations
in our public parks. Certainly normal
concession items found in parks can be sold.
But the store itself can not be the event.
C.Most important of all:That park(where the
summer band concerts are held-IS THE ONLY-THE
ONLY WATER SIDE,TREE SHADED PASSIVE PARK IN
Long Beach where one can:drive up;park;take
five steps;be in a tranquil setting;relax;
enjoy the view of the boating activity or
snooze SANS:noise and rancor of a highly
active park;inhaling exhaust or hearing the
noise of auto and truck traffic. It is truly
a one of a kind site.
It also consumes an area where for half a
century school kids-on the way home from
school-do what kids to-just be kids.Now that
place has been taken from them-for a
commercial operation-SO TROUBLING:
l.Its operator-who lives in Alamitos Heights
will not have it in her neighborhood-which
has ample room.
2.Gary De Long will not have it in his
neighborhood which has an excellent location
at Los Altos Plaza.

The Council and Mayor were advised of the above
two months ago-and again tonight.

Thus,go down there tomorrow. If it is there, you will have a good idea if the integrity and process
of Measure I will be adhered to or ignored.
