Los Al, not Lakewood

In what had to be the best girls volleyball match of the young season, Los Alamitos upended nationally ranked Lakewood in three games to win the Molten/Gahr Classic on Wednesday night.

It was an exceptionally played game, although the biggest difference might have been the Lancers giving away a few too many easy points in the 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 match.

Los Al has some good size and some of its best players are young, like soph. OH Jane Croson (13 kills), junior MB Emily Hartong and Soph. MB Hallie Amaro.

Griffins coach Dave Huber took the big win humbley, saying "Both teams had their opportunities tonight, but we just took advantage of ours. We will enjoy the win, but we know we have to get better at the end of the year for when it matters."

A rude (can't write some of the comments they said, but let's just put it this way: it was foul and inappropriate for even a hole-in-the-wall bar) and obnoxious Los Al rooting section made for some excitement after the game as a Lakewood assistant coach and player confronted a Griffins fan, likely a student.

All of the above should make for a nice little rivarly. Hope the two teams meet in the playoffs. They do meet again this weekend, at the Durango Tournament in Vegas.
