Wilson girls soccer forfeits games

The reigning CIF, State and national champion Bruins were stripped of four wins for use of an ineligible player.

The result is that Wilson has gone from Moore League co-champ to the league's fourth-place entry and will open the Division I playoffs in a wild-card game Tuesday at 3 pm against Chaparral at Wilson HS.

The ineligible player was not named, but coach Jason Kirkwood did say that the player in question was caught in photos playing an "Hispanic league games," a CIF rules violation.

Kirkwood, who was unaware of the situation until is was brought to his attention, was livid in that rival coaches (who will not be named as not to start a mud-slinging war until there are sources to back up any accusations) had the photos of the ineligible player and didn't turn the pictures over until three weeks after the fact, causing a lot of turmoil on the days leading up to the playoffs.

If Kirkwood's accusations are true, it would seem ethical to turn the evidence over to CIF, the Moore League, whomever in a timely manner or not at all.

IT WOULD SEEM ETHICAL TO SUPPORT THOSE TEAMS WHO FOLLOW THE RULES & NOT POINT FINGERS AT THOSE WHO BELIEVE THAT ALL RULES SHOULD BE FOLLOWED. THIS COACH SHOULD HAVE EXPLAINED THIS CIF RULE TO ALL HIS PLAYERS LIKE ALL THE OTHER COACHES DO.... SEEMS LIKE YOU CONDONE NOT FOLLOWING RULES AND WANT TO QUESTION THOSE WHO ARE ETHICAL IN THEIR ADVISEMENT OF HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES.... How ridiculous to make it seem like Wilson was victimized!!! BOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO

What would be ethical is if this coach made his players aware of the CIF rules that are put in place for ALL teams!!!! Sounds like you are condoning this coach allowing his players to break the rules? This is HIGH SCHOOL soccer and teaching athletes that rules must be followed is important, but as you see from our PROFESSIONAL athletes, cheating and breaking the rules is OK as long as you don't get caught! Stop crying Kirkwood and stop blaming others for holding you and your TEAM accountable.....
