The Poly High girls basketball team won its fourth straight CIF State Division I title Saturday night, defeating Danville Monte Vista, 57-33, at Arco Arena in Sacramento.
It's only the third time a team has won four straight CIF State titles, and the first in Division I. Brea Olinda (1991-94) and Bishop Montgomery (2000-03) are the only other schools to win four consecutive titles.
Kelli Thompson became the only Poly athlete to ever win four consecutive state titles and is
the first in the state to do so since current WNBA player Noelle Quinn starred at Bishop Montgomery.
The Jackrabbits (32-3) got 12 points from Ta'Nitra Byrd and 10 from Monique Oliver, and a total of nine different players scored for Poly in yet another total team effort.
Jazzmine Shirley won the Sportsmanship Award for Poly.
Props to the Jackrabbits!

Its' hard to be a 'Rabbit! I'm sure you've heard that before, right? If not pass this on to a person whom has actually attended the various Poly sporting events and who can appreciate the achievements of these scholar athletes. Poly Hight Coach Carl Buggs has not only established a program that is the envy of nearly every school not just in Cali but the nation as well. But it is more than just winning state titles for Poly - these student athletes are to be applauded for their achievements not only on the hardwoods, but also the hallowed halls of Poly High. To be able to maintain their excellence on court these girls are also required to maintain near excellence in the classroom as well. Being a student at a + 4,000 student population is hard enough during these adolescent years, but try also to be a member of a super successful big time athletic program. Not easy I am sure, congratulations Poly High.
