Standout running back Jerry Stone "is done playing football at Lakewood," according to coach Thadd MacNeal, after Stone was incarcerated following a run-in with the law Friday night in Compton.

Coach Mac said Stone, one of the top couple RBs in the area this season, is being held in juvenile hall on a "very serious offense."

More info will be made available as it becomes known.

flakewood... sucking even more

Always seems to happen to Lakewood. Maybe they deserve it.

Sad story indeed for the Lakewood football team. However, the Lancers are at the caliber where they can also "reload." This is an unfortunate incident, but it's not uncommon among high school athletes. If this were Poly, most of the users here would shrug their shoulders and say, "ah well, we're the champs; we can get past this." I won't mention names (Casey) who also was a former rabbit in trouble with the law. Did the poly faithful boast then?

Nobody "deserves" this to happen to them. Lakewood WILL BOUNCE BACK!

This kid was NFL material, and now may never play football again. What a horrible situation.

"Unfortunately, the immeasurably positive influence that football has had on inner-city areas in and around Long Beach is too often tempered by off-field violence, as anyone who’s followed area prep sports can attest."

It is a shame that ignorant people can say "they deserve it" or other ill-advised sentences. There are other schools with players in the penitentiary and it was and "unfortunate incident." I am calling you out "SHIB" and "HAHA" how did they "deserve it" or "sucking even more"?

I am not coming close to defending Jerry because I know him and he is a thug. But, how does all the other great kids at Lakewood deserve it? Maybe, just maybe they will come together and be a better team without him.

Oh well there goes Lakewood chances of beating Poly! What's that frase the Lakewood faithful normally say? Oh yeah, " We will get them next year!"

1,450 in 9 games?? That's NFL stuff right there. He could of gone to college on a scholarship, and now, he will be lucky if the UFL gives him a contract.

Such a shame. Such a talent gone to waste. The young man could catch the ball to boot. Well, you have to play your senior year to make it count. Where are the parents in all this? My goodness. This makes it 2 out of 3 years where the top tailback at Lakewood hasn't been able to play his senior year. But this may make this team rally even harder and another young man will own up to the TB positon and play his heart out. Much like the defense played late last year.
