History favors Lancers, but which ones?

There is some CIF playoff history between Lakewood and Bishop Amat, which square off in the quarterfinals of the Pac-5 Divison on Friday at Lakewood.

And for the most part, it's been Amat dominating that history.

In the 1970 CIF title game, Lakewood lost, 18-17, to a Bishop Amat team led by Pat Haden and John McKay Jr. Since then, they have played in eight other playoff games with Lakewood winning only once - 31-12 in 1982 in the first round.

Since then, it's all been Amat.

1983: Amat 14-7 in OT in the second round.
1985: Amat 27-10 in first round
1987: Amat 35-7 in first round
1990: Amat 31-13 in first round
1993: Amat 37-6 in first round
1997: Amat 13-3 in first round
2003: Amat 35-18 in first round

Will Bishop Amat keep up its dominance of lakewood on Friday, or will Lakewood turn it around and begin to even the series up?

Let's see if this Lakewood team can snap another streak.

It would be an embarassment for Lakewood to drop this. I see them win a close one.

Ouch!!! Those are some hard odds. Lakewood losing 7 straight playoff meetings to Amat is another streak Lakewood will have to face. Fortunately, I'm not sure anyone was aware of that streak until now and most in the Long Beach area are not familiar with Bishop Amat or their tradition. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that the LLancers will win this one.

Not sure what these facts have to do about anything. Except for thed 1970 team Lakewood was never really that good.

Players are different, coach is different, venue is different. Therefore the result will be different!!!!

It would be an embarassment for Lakewood to drop this. SAY WHAT?? SIX teams that Bishop Amat has played are STILL in the playoffs. Embarassment??

In the San Gabriel Valley Tribune blog:

"Joe P said:
WOW,

He may be going to USC but to sit if he wants to QB. Barkley is not going anywhere So is Scroggins going to USC to play QB his Senior year. He may not even play QB for USC. USC goes with Caucasian QB's as you can see. I mean who was last great African American QB for USC? Rodney Peete?"

Way to go Amat! Way to show your expensive Catholic education. The SGV is very proud of your ignorance and arrogance . . .once again!!!

Lakewood, do the San Gabriel Valley a big favor. Please take these guys down hard!

Bishop Amat has a great history, but the only thing that matters is this friday. Bishop Amat has beat some of the top programs in the state(this year).
Im gonna take Bishop Amat. Great season lakewood!

amnot 95,
Boy you sure do try and hide from us . Why don't you come over where you belong on Fred's blog and talk your nonsense there. Are you scared of the feedback. Please ignore this fools comments as we do have plenty of respect for Lakewood and their program. Looking forward to hard fought battle this Friday. Good luck to you and your team and here's hoping for a good clean injury free game.

Amnot Champion Since 1995

Aye puto what you dont like the racist remarks on the SGV blog?? The only people getting taken down hard are the lakeweed players getting tackled by fat cops, after doing drive by's.

lakeweed is going down.

They should have moved the game to a bigger venue. Amat travels. Hopefully we will outnumber Lakewood fans at their "home" game.

We're steadfast, loyal and true!

Say it isnt so! My son tells me that Dion Bailey will not play this friday night?
Awww man...

I've been hearing that Dion will be out of this game also, not an injury but due to legal problems? Any truth to this or are they rumors?

We tried to take it to a different venue! But they are charging way too much for us to travel to another place. We were trying to send it to Cerritos College bt they gave a number that was way to high.

And whoever said it would be embarassing to lose to Bishop Amat is crazy! Bishop Amat is a good team! Most of the teams they beat are in da playoffs!

Lakewood 28 - Bishop Amat 14

CORRECTION! I know Dion Bailey personally, because his mom is my best friend, and I'm not sure who told you that he would not be playing this evening "Lakewood for Life", because he's not hurt and nothing has happened to him. Therefore, you have nothing to worry about. Dion is an honor student and has accepted a football scholarship with USC, and has never been in any trouble with the law EVER! "Thank God" for watching over him. I just saw Dion yesterday and I think you may be getting him confused with "Jerry Stone". However, my best friends son "Dion Bailey" will be playing this evening and he is more than 100% ready for tonight's game. I will be there watching the entire show, and I guarantee you that Lakewood Lancers will come out on top....However, these young men on both teams have worked so hard to get this far and they should be congradulated for that. I wish them all good luck! No matter who wins tonight both teams are winners! Let's watch a great game tonight and just pray that no one on either team gets hurt.

Wow! It's extremely quiet now and I wonder why? Final Score Lakewood Lancers 34 Bishop Amt Lancers 17. Everyone have a great weekend!
