With the CIF playoffs heading into championship week, here's a quick look at the possible state bowl matchups. How the CIF title games next weekend play out will certainly play into the matchups.

Open Division: Edison vs. De La Salle (Concord)
Division 1:Vista Murrieta vs. Bellarmine Prep (San Jose)
Division 2: Servite vs. Rocklin
Division 3: Oaks Christian vs. and Modesto Christian
Small Schools: Parker (San Diego) and Modesto Christian

glad lakewood lost...over rated team in weak moore league

What's this? No love for Sacramento Grant? Go figure. If it is De La Salle vs. Edison...these Spartans are gonna be in for a world of hurt.

How do you overlook Crenshaw? They can only beat who they are scheduled to play.
I assume that Edison will beat Servite, which will mean that Servite will have 2 loses. So why should a team with a perfect record not be invited? Give Crenshaw two chances to beat Edison, and they might win both times. Servite is lucky to be in the PAC5 Championship game. They got a generous call to help them get four more downs to beat Poly. They were one play from losing to MV.(2point conversion). Crenshaw should get a chance to play. Is it always about private schools and Orange County schools? I detect a little biased and racism against inner city football teams. I have said it and written before, that the state football games doesn't mean much, because the officials pick who they want to play in it. That's not logical to me that because Servite only lost to Edison they should be in the State tournament. A lot of teams lost to Edison, but not Crenshaw.
If the committee can't try to show a little fairness in selecting teams, maybe there shouldn't be a state game. It is meaningless.

uh, crenshaw?

T Wilson, I loved everything you said against Servite. They did get 4 extra downs. I still want to see that pass interference in that game!!!

Answer your self this question! Who has Crenshaw played? Lakewood? WOW! Of course they can only beat who they play, but the C.I.F. officials don't make season football schedules. This is simple, you want to be the best you play the best! If you are taking this in the direction that they have blown through the city section, you probably should take a step back! REMEMBER LA CITY SECTION, STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE, School is dismissed!

Totally agree with T. Wilson comments. If Crenshaw win the City champioship game next week. Then they should get s state championship slot. Lets be fair and wise folks.

Crenshaw as an undefeated team should get a shot to play in a State championship game.

Hey JR I thought the same thing, but Grant was upset last night by Rocklin

How can Edison and Servite both play in State games...you have to win your CIF Division to get into one of these...and Edison and Servite play each other on Saturday night????????????????????????????????????????????

Who goofed -- I've got to know!

Area fan, you don't know who Crenshaw is trying to schedule every year. Some teams may not want to play Crenshaw. I know for a fact that Poly did ask Oak Christian to play them at least 3 times, and they said no. So you play who you get. This is not the whack BCS, Bad College System. Texas playing Alabama is ridiculous.
That is about as ridiculous as letting Servite play in a state game if they lose again to Edison. If a private school like Servite, with all their resources cannot beat a public school, with fewer resources and a lot more restrictions, then they don't deserve to go. Even the Poly game was given to them. Again, stop showing preferential treatment to Orange County private schools. Let a few inner city kids get some joy in other sports besides basketball.

Side note:
Lakewood could have beaten Edison if the right plays would have been called. Again, public schools don't have the expertise of coaching like private schools can afford. One right adjustment or one right play call will always make the difference in a close games. And sometimes they get the official's help too.

Why not give the other divisions the chance to play at Angels Stadium? I mean make it a two day event - Friday, Saturday or Sat-Sun. Charter Oak won last year but still has to play their championship game at Citrus College I think or some other venue which is a nice stadium but wouldn't it be better for all to experience the big stadium atmosphere?

I am from LB and a huge Poly fan but think Crenshaw should be considered for a State game. They have played some pretty good teams. Lakewood is no slouch and although they were beaten, a few caught passes instead drops may have made a difference. Crenshaw beat Lakewood thus are pretty good.

There is a team called the West Monroe rebels in Louisiana (was on an ESPN documentary two years ago) were told the same thing about strength of schedule all year. All they have done was crush anyone who got in their way and will play for the state championship at the Super Dome in New Orleans Saturday. Crenshaw deserves a shot at a state game in my opinion just as the Rebels have earned. Take nothing away from Edison, they are the best in the Pac 5 and think Servite may have issues beating them this weekend..

No Love for San Diego Schools ...Cathedral Catholic (won state last year) or Oceanside

CRENSHAW vs. De La Salle in the Open Division
Get it right PT!

D from the P:

Grant was THAT overrated? Bloody hell.
Looks like we will have, without a doubt, a new Open Division champion.

None of us know which teams will be in bowl games, so there is no "getting it right" at this point.

I'm of agreement with Crenshaw getting an opportunity if they finish out unblemished. Once in a while for a City team, all the stars align. Scheduling is subjective since you don't know from one year to the next how a HS team will perform, especially a public school. The very fact that Crenshaw has completely blown through the City, plus a non-league schedule outside of the City, merits strong consideration for a State game.

Division 3 should have someone new, regardless of the outcome of how Oaks Christian does. Oaks Christian chooses to be a big fish in a small pond. Why don't they take on Concord De La Salle? Concord seems to be willing to travel anywhere for a game with anyone.

Does anyone know who was the architect(s) of the California state bowl system? It seems to have been created with flaws running all through it. I talked with a friend from Texas about our system and he laughed in my face when I told him about how teams were selected for bowl games. Although the Texas system is not perfect, if a state that big can come up with a state playoff system, why can't California? At the end of the day there are going to be a whole bunch of schools from Oceanside to Crenshaw to Westlake to Fresno Bullard to Inderkum in Sacramento all who are good, and might go undefeated (and who have played quality schedules), but won't even get considered for any state bowl game. It is a shame and should be completely re-tooled during the summer or just give up saying "state" champion and call bowl winners "selected" champions.

I believe Crenshaw should get a shot, but I also believe that all Title Champs should enter into a playoff, then there would be no question as to who is the best.
