Boys
Thomas Brown, Jr., St. Anthony
Brown was nearly unstoppable on both sides of the ball during the Saints' 23-12 win over Fairmont Prep on Saturday. Forced to play QB because of injuries, Brown rushed for 196 yards and a TD in just three quarters. Defensively, he made a dozen tackles, two sacks and blocked a pair of punts that he returned for touchdowns.

Girls
Megan Moenoa, Sr., Lakewood
The standout setter had five solid matches in leading the Lancers to their first-ever title at the Molten Gahr Tournament last week. She recorded 150 assists, 26 kills, 17 digs, 13 blocks and eight aces en route to the all-tournament team.

Nick Richardson, Sr., Los Alamitos
Richardson earned the award for the second straight week to open the season, rushing for a whopping 303 yards and four touchdowns, two of more than 50 yards, on 28 carries in the Griffins' 34-19 victory over Mayfair. After two games, he has totaled 552 yards and eight TDs.

Zana Bowens, Jr., Poly
The junior right-side hitter recorded a team-high 18 kills for the Jackrabbits in their season opener last week, a come-from-behind 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-10 victory over defending CIF-SS Division I-AA and state champ Newport Harbor

Athlete of the Week
Boys
Nick Richardson, Sr., Los Alamitos
The Griffins' small but elusive Richardson ran away from the Norwalk defense in stunning style during a 34-0 season-opening victory. He rushed the ball 15 times for 258 yards and scored four touchdowns, on runs of 22, 32, 53 and 73 yards.
