Athletes of the Week
Boys
James Garrett
, Sr., Millikan
The 6-2, 235-pound power back rushed for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 14 carries to lead the Rams to a 40-16 win over South Gate on Friday night, ending Millikan's 11-game losing streak.

Strehlow, arguably the area's top girls volleyball player, backed up that claim with two fine performances last week. She posted 22 kills in a win over Poly and 25 kills in a victory against Lakewood to lead the Bruins into first place in the Moore League.

Robert Morales began covering prep sports in the greater Long Beach area in 2007. When a local football coach asked him how he felt about reporting on preps after many years of covering boxing, auto racing and various other sports, he replied, "Hey, if I'm going to cover prep sports anywhere, I'm glad it's this area because of the level of athletics, the intensity displayed by the athletes and coaches and the support of the community."
