Travon Payne has made two excellent first-half TD catches and Long Beach City's football team holds a 26-14 lead over Pierce at intermission.
Payne's first TD came on a 22-yard pass from Ryan Craighead. He caught the ball near the 10, then tight-walked the sideline and dove just inside the pylon to score. On his second score, a 25-yard pass from Craighead, Payne wrestled the ball away from Pierce safety Cody Berry in the back of the end zone.
Payne finished the first half with seven catches for 96 yards and Craighead has thrown for 228 yards. Jerramie Jackson and Joel Panteau each have a 1-yard TD run for the Vikings.
